TREATMENT OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY

The SA/CD Service at Shorehaven provides these comprehensive services:

SA/CD treatment is about CHANGE in the individual, in beliefs, thinking, emotional reactions, and behavior which produce alcohol or drug problems.

A number of therapies have proven to be helpful for CHANGE in substance abuse problems.

Day Treatment is the treatment for those just starting recovery. It is an intensive program to help a client get free of chemicals.

Day Treatment is provided by a staff which is dedicated and experienced, dedicated to working with the client fifteen hours per week—three hours a day—in order to help commit to recovery.

One of the unique features of Shorehaven is that our entire AODA staff is dually trained in mental health and AODA. So we have true capacity to work with clients with DUAL DISORDERS – chemical dependency and mental disorder.

We have two levels of Day Treatment. One of the groups is devoted to more mentally ill patients.

3. Group Therapy

Group Therapy helps change by having other group members provide feedback. Shorehaven has two groups for long term aftercare. One of the groups is for patients with mental illness.

4. Family Therapy

Family Therapy is about change in the family, in the interaction of the members, parenting skills, child behavior.

Addictions affect every member of the family. Family Therapy helps each member to recover from the effects of the addiction and helps support the person in recovery.

Psychiatrists provide medication which help change symptoms.

Current medications such as Revia and Campral are helpful for reducing cravings for alcohol, will Suboxone is a leading treatment for opiate addiction.

Psychologists do in-depth assessment of personality in order to make recommendations for change.

8. Employee Assistance

EAP counselors help with substance abuse assessments for those referred due to workplace problems.
